A Guide to Planning Your Newport High School Senior Pictures

Booking senior pictures can feel like the beginning of an end. After all, this is your chance to show off your accomplishments and celebrate the conclusion of high school. At the same time, you want to be sure you book with plenty of time before graduation actually arrives. It can be hard to get the timing exactly right. Trust me, I get it! As a Bellevue senior photographer, I have spent a decent amount of time advising students so they can have the best portraits. If you could use some help, here is my guide for when to plan your Newport High School senior pictures.

Everything You Need To Know For Your Newport High School Senior Portraits

What Do You Want to Wear?

One of the biggest things I tell Newport High School students to think about is their outfits. Chances are, you have an outfit that helps you instantly feel like yourself. That confidence is going to go so far when it comes to your senior pics. If you prefer sundresses and heels, you will probably want to book in the warmer months, such as July or August. If sweaters are more your thing, September or October might be best. Think about the colors of the seasons and whether you can build an outfit that will coordinate. My biggest advice for outdoor sessions is to avoid the rainy months of winter. The last thing you want is for your hair and your makeup to get completely ruined by the weather.

When is Your Busiest Time of Year?

You will want to keep your schedule as well as your photographer’s in mind. During fall, there is a good chance all your extracurriculars are starting back up, plus that tends to be the busiest time of year for photographers. That doesn’t mean it’s impossible to schedule during this time; it just means you will want to plan early and make sure you don’t have any conflicts that might come up at the last minute. If you are involved in a lot of Newport High School activities, I would recommend planning for the summer.

What Scenery Do You Want?

Scenery is going to play a big part in your Newport High School senior pictures. While the Pacific Northwest stays pretty verdant year-round, there are still some months when nature really puts on a show. If you would prefer lots of colorful flowers for your pictures, a late spring session might just be ideal for you. In summer, you can find lots of spots with sunflowers and zinnias. If the vibrant shades of autumn are more your speed, then plan around September or October.

What Do You Want To Use the Photos For?

Finally, think about what you want your pictures for. If you are using it for the yearbook, you need to make sure you submit it with plenty of time for the deadline (for many of my clients’ schools, this is around the fall). And when in doubt, defer to your parents. There is a chance they might want to send it out in their holiday cards or create graduation announcements. See what they have in mind and schedule accordingly.
