College is such an important time in your life. It’s your chance to go out into the world, create some lifelong friendships, and build the connections that will help you throughout your career. During the beginning, however, you have to spend so much time on the gen eds that it can be hard to stay motivated. As a Seattle-area senior photographer, I always suggest my clients try out UW in the High School. This innovative program lets you get a head start by giving you college credits on the classes you’re already taking. Here’s what you need to know about it.
UW in the High School was started in 1981 as a way to give students a boost well before college even starts. It’s essentially a dual-purpose program. There are teachers in high schools all across Washington who have been trained to teach from the UW curriculum. You will be able to take these classes right in your high school for little to no cost. Since all of this will take place right where you are, you don’t have to worry about missing anything. Then, once you graduate high school, you will be able to apply the credits you’ve received to your college degree, giving you the chance to shave off a semester or more!
The very first step with starting out is to find the classes that qualify as UW in the High School courses. The program has made this a piece of cake! All the applicable courses are listed in the UW course catalog. You’re going to get to choose from courses like Introduction to Computer Programming, English Composition, Intro to Psychology, Climate Justice, and Modern Hebrew Prose. Whether you want to work on your gen ed credits or you want to try a program to see if you actually want to pursue your dream career, they have just the thing! All these courses will effortlessly fit into your high school schedule. Additionally, it’s absolutely free for public school students. And while these classes instantly count for UW credit, they’re easily transferred to other universities all across the United States!
In addition to getting college credit, UW In The High School gives you all the resources you need to succeed. They give you a UW student ID which gives you savings at the bookstore as well as access to the library. You will have virtual access to their librarians about library research and other resources.
If you need a way to kickstart your college career, I think you will adore UW in the High School! This program gives you everything you need to start on classes before you even graduate high school!
