As a Seattle-area senior photographer, I get the chance to chat a lot with students perfecting their college applications. Most kids are looking for a way to really help them stand apart from the competition. One of my top suggestions? Find a local way to volunteer with the community! Not only is this going to give you an invaluable experience, but it’s going to look amazing on your application. Now, it’s just a matter of finding the spot that perfectly matches your style. After all, you’re going to get a lot more out of it if you are actually having fun! If you are looking for volunteer opportunities in Kirkland, here are the spots I always recommend!
12040 NE 128th Street, Kirkland, Washington 98034
EvergreenHealth gives you a great way to work one-on-one with patients. While this is a fabulous volunteer opportunity for every Kirkland student, it can especially be helpful if you plan on pursuing a career in the medical field. They allow teens ages 16 and over. You will start out with a 6-month commitment where you will commit to 100 service hours or 3-4 hour shifts. Essentially, you will be there to support providers in places like the information desk or the gift shop. You will be in a fast-paced atmosphere, working near various medical departments.
620 Market Street, Kirkland, Washington 98033
If you are someone who loves diving into their creative side, I think you will adore the volunteer opportunities at Kirkland Arts Center! This organization is entirely fueled by volunteers, giving you plenty of ways to get involved. Volunteers ages 15 and up can choose from long-term and short-term options that will easily fit around their schedules. You can help run galas or provide assistance during festivals. They regularly need help setting up in the art studio, or you can help with marketing by making posters. They even have outdoor opportunities to work in the gardens. You will be able to do a lot of good while connecting with people who share your creative interests!
123 5th Ave, Kirkland, Washington 98033
If you are the type of Kirkland resident who wants to find a way to give back to the community, I think you would like the volunteer opportunities through The City of Kirkland. The City has tons of ways for you to get involved, whether you want to preserve the land through environmental stewardship programs or help out with kids’ athletic games by being a youth coach. They have a range of different activities for teens ages 14-17. Whether you want to assist with the town’s media or work as a lifeguard, we have just the spot for you!
