When you are preparing for your senior pictures, there’s a chance you’re finding countless articles addressed specifically to girls. If we’re sticking to the stereotypes, girls just tend to think a bit more about these sessions. They spend the weeks before planning out their hair or finding the perfect outfits. And trust me, there’s a reason why! These pictures are not only going to help you remember your senior year, but they will also be used for announcements that will be on refrigerators and mantles for years to come. Might as well make sure they look as good as possible! As a Bellevue senior photographer, I get the chance to help countless students as they prepare for their Hazen High School portraits. Here are some of my recommendations for the guys!
You’ve probably realized this, but there’s some math involved when it comes to planning a haircut. It can look a little jarring right when you get one, and any mistakes tend to stick out. Then, it looks perfect, and then it’s time for another one. Rinse and repeat. My biggest piece of advice is to plan your haircut one week in advance. That way, it can grow out slightly without looking straggly for your Hazen High School senior portraits.
Grooming is going to make all the difference in your pictures and instantly make you look put-together. If you stick to the clean-shaven look, do it the morning of your pictures and moisturize afterwards. If you do have some facial hair, trim it up and give it some attention with balm or conditioner. Also, don’t neglect your nails! Clean and trim them that day.
It doesn’t matter if you buy the nicest brands that perfectly match your outfit. If they are wrinkled, they are not going to photograph well in your Hazen High School photos. Iron your clothing before your session. I’m not just talking about the nice, starchy button-ups, either. Even your t-shirts could use a little heat beforehand!
I love to use props that show off your personality. If you play sports, we can incorporate your uniform and equipment. We can use instruments if you play music. If you need some help figuring out what to use, think about what you do with your free time. Things like headphones, books, and skateboards can all be used. Cars are also popular choices, but make sure you clean yours ahead of time so you’re not showing off grime. I would even bring some window cleaner so you can do last-minute touch-ups.
My biggest piece of advice? Just relax. This is supposed to be a fun experience, and if you’re stressed out, it’s going to show! You can make jokes throughout and even bring along a friend or a significant other if that will help. Have the best time ever, and remember: this is your chance to celebrate all your hard work!
With these tips, you can have your best Hazen High School senior portraits. If you could still use some help, though, just let me know. I love working with students to give them pictures that show off their personality! Let’s have a conversation soon so you can have portraits everyone will love.
