When you are working to land your dream college, you spend a lot of time polishing your application. You study hard for every test and devote hours to extracurriculars. If you are looking for another way to make your application stand out, you might want to consider volunteering. Not only will it look fabulous on a transcript, but it will also give you a valuable life experience you’ll treasure for years to come! As a Seattle senior photographer, I adore working with seniors so they can make the most of their high school careers. Here are the best places to volunteer on Mercer Island.
9611 SE 36th Street, Mercer Island, Washington 98040
Mercer Island is a pretty incredible place that’s made better by regular volunteers. The city gives you a number of ways you can give back to the community. Did you know, for example, we’re one of the few cities with its own human services department? You can help out here with the Mercer Island Thrift Shop or leading fundraising for the MIYFS Foundation (more on this one in a sec!). The Parks & Rec Department relies on help with forest restoration, while the city needs help with emergency preparedness exercises. No matter your interests, we have just the spot for you!
P.O. Box 1084, Mercer Island, Washington 98040
Mercer Island Youth & Family Services Foundation (MIYFS, for short) is here to make sure everyone in the community has access to what they need to thrive! If you want to help out, you can volunteer for their many Mercer Island fundraising events, such as their annual breakfast or their holiday tree lot. Just let them know what you want to do, and they’ll find the perfect role!
2737 77th Avenue Southwest Suite 101, Mercer Island, Washington 98040
If you are a natural leader, The Friendship Circle of Washington needs you! This Mercer Island group welcomes volunteers to spend a year building up the community. You will need to attend monthly leadership meetings, so you know how you can help at events for groups like Sunday Circle, Birthday Clubs, Friends@Home, and UMatter. You can also assist with fundraising and recruitment.
3801 East Mercer Way, Mercer Island, Washington 98040
Stroum Jewish Community Center of Greater Seattle gives you ways to volunteer through The J. While they do work mostly with The J members, you don’t need to be affiliated to help out! They have several options for volunteer work. If you want to assist with a one-off event, they have regular short-term teen volunteer events. You will be able to tell them what you’d like to help with, and they’ll find just the thing!
If you are looking for a way to give back to your community while growing your college application, I think you are going to love these opportunities to volunteer on Mercer Island! And if you need more help getting ready for college, stick around! As a Seattle senior photographer, I adore working with students so they can make the most of this time. If you need to schedule your senior photo session, I would love to sit down and have a conversation so you can decide if my style matches yours. Send me a message today to find out more!
